If you thought the original Moor Amps Angel 6 couldn’t be improved, Moor Amps has proven you wrong with the new MkII.
The Angel 6 MkII amplifier introduces significant upgrades over the original MkI, driven by improved system listening conditions using a Moor Amps manaDAC and an upgraded streamer. By re-evaluating the original design in a higher-resolution setup, Moor Amps fine-tuned the amplifier’s unique 3-island power supply to deliver superior audio performance.
The power supply has undergone major revisions to enhance musicality, dynamics, and ripple smoothing. The capacitance of the first island was trebled, the Effective Series Resistance (ESR) of the second island was halved, and the critical third island saw its capacitance quadrupled while its ESR was halved. Overall, total power supply capacitance increased from 200,000 µF in the mkI to 550,000 µF in the MkII. Because of these larger, lower-ESR capacitors with thicker metal plates, the amplifier’s overall weight increased by over 4 kg (to 30 kg).
Additionally, the MkII features a revised casing and an upgraded input-switching mechanism. The casework was redesigned to be narrower and deeper to fit standard hi-fi racks better (Width 460mm x Depth 480mm x Height 171mm), while optimised internal wiring and track distances further boost sonic clarity. Finally, the original RCA/XLR toggle switches were replaced with latching relays featuring gold-, silver-, and palladium-clad contacts, delivering improved audio transparency and dynamics without electrical control noise in the signal path.
Angel 6 MkII RRP is £12,800. Existing owners can upgrade a Mk I to a Mk II with a return-to-factory service costing £4,440, including VAT and return carriage.
