Danish Audiophile Loudspeaker Industries (DALI) has announced the BASIK SUB, a compact active subwoofer designed to enhance depth, scale, and impact for music and home cinema. Engineered to pair naturally with bookshelf speakers like the DALI KUPID and SONIK, this subwoofer handles low-frequency reproduction, offloading deep bass duties from smaller speakers. This improves the main speakers’ midrange clarity and overall soundstage, making it an ideal, space-efficient solution for smaller living areas where floor-standing models are impractical.
At the core of the BASIK SUB is a custom 8-inch down-firing paper-pulp woofer powered by an efficient 170 W RMS (220 W peak) Class-D amplifier with a dual-stage limiter. The down-firing configuration combined with four 25 mm decoupled feet promotes even bass distribution and reduces cabinet vibration while offering versatile room placement options. The rigid MDF enclosure comes in five distinct finishes—Solid Black, Solid White, Caramel White, Golden Yellow, and Chilly Blue—to seamlessly complement DALI’s companion loudspeaker lineups.
For seamless system integration, the subwoofer features built-in gain, phase (0–180°), and adjustable crossover controls to match various room acoustics and speaker sizes. Connectivity options include standard stereo LINE L/R inputs alongside a dedicated mono LFE input, ensuring compatibility with traditional hi-fi setups, AV receivers, and modern streaming amplifiers alike.
Krestian Pedersen, Head of Product Management at DALI says:
We’ve seen a rise in popularity of bookshelf speakers with our own award-winning KUPID and SONIK 1 speakers over the last year. This has been fuelled by small, affordable streaming amplifiers and turntables that let consumers build a custom hi-fi system for the price of a smartphone. BASIK SUB is designed as a natural enhancement for these systems, as almost all affordable streaming amplifiers and speakers feature dedicated subwoofer output and bass management features, making it possible to get the full scale and bandwidth from a compact and interior-friendly package
