As in the previous album, Bayou Country, this is solid Bluesey, early Americana and its earthy direct delivery is very welcome. It is another one where I feel the vinyl will be even more satisfying; I note that Deja Vu is coming up soon, with Crosby, Stills, Nash and Young and I have that on ’70s vinyl, I feel the same vibe.
What is rather pleasant about this album is many of the tracks are fairly short, the album itself comes in under half an hour. Fogarty’s Bad Moon Rising is a clear highlight, reminiscent of Proud Mary on the previous album. Another highlight, the opener, Green River, sets the tone nicely, rolling along with the heavy lead guitar in the right-hand speaker, noticeably. As a whole, the album puts me back to John Mayall’s Blues Breakers, rated 8.3. Loving John Fogarty and his songwriting, Fortunate Son, is coming up soon this year, 1969, and surely one of the greatest protest songs of all time.
The album seems to be a neat and clean recording, possibly a function of this incredible HiFi system I have. I’m in music-listening heaven with the new Naim NSC 222, the Moor Amp Angel 6, and the Titan 505 loudspeakers. Here I have a decent deep and wide soundstage that is totally engaging and where I had lost a bit of focus on listening to music and tapping my feet, this system delivers it all back to me.
