Arcam MusicBOOST
At the Arcam event last week I had first sight and a good listen to the new Arcam MusicBOOST. It is basically a high quality, good feeling, iPhone battery sleeve that has a decent DAC inside it and barely adds to the weight in your pocket. It adds about a centimetre and a half of length to your iPhone and a few millimetres to the thickness. I thought it was a remarkable addition to the ‘iPhone is a cr@*&y music player’ debate that I was so vocal about I left Apple and bought into Android. No regrets here, by the way. Given it is so thin, and adds so much musically to the iPhone it is knock out really. The Arcam MusicBOOST is also a battery pack, adding 120% of extra capacity to the iPhone.
Sound
The Arcam MusicBOOST sounded pretty good to me. I listened to a few tracks that I was not familiar with so it was difficult to judge, additionally, I’ve not heard the B&W headphones before. But the overall impression was very good.
I carry an Oppo HA-2 with me most of the time, it sounds amazing with my Android so I’ll look forward to a test drive on this soon and seeing just how simple this audio upgrade is to make. This was a very neat solution that I think will find favour with the over 10 million iPhone 6 owners. With the ‘Made for iPhone’ Apple approved tag Arcam better get making these in bulk for December. Note that if your a 6 plus owner you’re going to be a bit sick if you love your music.
