HF&MS Best of 2023 – REL Carbon Special
Awards Season continues with one of the best pound-for-pound investments you can make to upgrade your HiFi system, a subwoofer. Mention subwoofer and you should be thinking of REL, the leaders in this technology who only make one product; you guessed it, subwoofers.
The REL Carbon Special, reviewed in June, offered a stunning platform with the Kudos Titan 505 loudspeakers. In the review we said;
…clear in my mind that a subwoofer can offer the best pound-for-pound upgrade you can make to a decent HiFi system.
We also concluded;
…if you have a pair of speakers that have an exceptional soundstage, detail, and timing this is the vehicle for lifting that experience a level or three up, no matter how much your loudspeakers cost
With a classy look, tons of power but plenty of control, the REL Carbon Special was an outstanding performer this year and richly deserves a Best of 2023 Award from HF&MS. Congratulations to REL Acoustics. Watch our YouTube video on the REL here.
I have two Rel Carbon Specials connected direct to my Audiovector R6’s. Started with one, dealer suggested two would be a good improvement, which it was. Now I’m considering going for the six pack.
They are awesome because they are not too big but have a great deal of punch. Because the relatively small have good wife approval factor
A truly exceptional subwoofer. I also have a pair of Carbon Specials that are paired and easily integrated with my beautiful Bowers and Wilkins 805 D4 Signatures. These speakers are absolutely brilliant on their own, like listening to music through a crystal clear pool of sound, and yet the Carbon Specials lift them to new sonic heights. The soundstage is deep, detailed and definitely 3D and the clarity of the music from all sources (NDX2/Rega Saturn 3/Naim Solstice TT) is mind blowing! Improvement in low and mids beautifully complimented by the amazing D4 tweeter. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED as this is one of the most significant upgrades you can make in your system. A truly beautiful and brilliantly engineered piece of kit (x 2). Well done B&W and well done to REL. A Fantastic Combination.
