News today from Rega, who are announcing the long-awaited launch of the Mercury Pre-amplifier and Solis Power amplifier, which will retail for UK SSP £13,900.00 for the pair.
The Rega Mercury Pre-amplifier features one balanced XLR input and four line-level RCA inputs. There are also two Coax inputs, two Optical TOSLink inputs, a USB input, and a record loop. Outputs are pre-out balanced or unbalanced, and a headphone output. The DAC in the Mercury has a suite of DAC Filters of all flavours.
What is the reason Rega is going for this combination of amplifiers at the Reference end of its range? Rega says;
The advantage of using a separate chassis for the pre-amplifier and power amplifier allows the low-voltage, sensitive circuitry to be isolated from the high-current, power amplifier circuitry. This reduces interference between the pre-amplifier and power amplifier, leading to a less noisy signal path and a cleaner signal.
The Rega Solis power amplifier delivers 168W into 8Ω and 305W into 4Ω. It is purely a power amplifier, making the Mercury, or other pre-amplifier, an essential partner. Inputs are balanced XLR and non-balanced RCA with solid loudspeaker binding posts at the rear. The claimed frequency response (100W into 8Ω (Unbalanced input)) is 15Hz (-0.5dB point) to 30kHz (-0.5dB point).
Full details are on the Rega website.
