Absolute Sounds, the UK’s leading high-end audio distributor, has announced ‘The Happening’, a special weekend event celebrating extraordinary sound, live music, and audio craftsmanship. Taking place on Saturday 17th and Sunday 18th October at the Haycock Manor Hotel in Wansford, Cambridgeshire, the gathering brings together music lovers and industry visionaries. Tickets are £5 (plus a £1.13 booking fee), with all proceeds donated directly to Cancer Research UK.
Across six specialised listening rooms, visitors can experience meticulously matched systems featuring 26 of the world’s premier audio brands, including Magico, Wilson Audio, Dan D’Agostino, Audio Research, dCS, and Nagra. Founders, designers, and international “music mixologists” from across the globe will be on-site to demonstrate their latest equipment, share stories, and play tracks from their personal collections. Additionally, Hi-Fi+ Editor Alan Sircom will host chat-show-style panel Q&As with prominent figures from the high-end audio world throughout the weekend.
The event extends beyond system demonstrations to include live musical performances, which Nagra engineer Matthieu Latour will record on-site. Saturday evening features London’s Dust Me Down Blues Band playing Chicago blues and funk, followed on Sunday by a collaborative performance from Palestinian oud virtuoso Nizar Rohana and Dutch double bassist Tony Overwater.
Rounding out the experience, vinyl vendors will be present on-site, offering a curated selection of rare and collectable LPs for visitors to browse and purchase. For those seeking relaxation, psychologist and wellbeing specialist Kasia Richter will host 20-minute introductory “sound bath” sessions using gongs and singing bowls to showcase sound’s restorative potential.
