109 – Axis: Bold As Love

Jimi Hendrix

I have to say, production aside, I’m rather disappointed with this compared to my euphoria over “Are You Experienced”.  This second album from Jimi Hendrix gets off to a slow start musically with a nonsense track called ‘Exp’ and a jazz funk riff in ‘Up from the skies’

With ‘Spanish castle magic’ the album gets going finally with familiar guitars. ‘Wait until tomorrow’ is a groovy must listen in the absence of the huge Jimi Hendrix songs we all know and love. ‘Ain’t no telling’ is a wonderful song with Hendrix using his guitar to sing the words. The album slows down in the middle which is very disappointing and comes across as rambling jamming sessions. Good jamming, but still not as tight as it should be. It feels all a bit of a rush job: indeed I read that this was the case, after listening to this album

Favourite Track – Ain’t no telling, Little wing

Rating – 8.0

Released – Dec 1967
