Album of the Week

Visitor by Sienna Sipro (Qobuz 24-bit, 44.1kHz)

At just 20 years old, Sienna Spiro comes across as an “old soul” whose musical and visual world is deeply rooted in the 1960s. Behind the bouffant hair and polished, Burt Bacharach-style arrangements lies a profound anxiety about impermanence. This theme is introduced right from the opening track, “This Is My House,” where her description of a home’s unwavering solidity offers a reassuring anchor for the young British singer. Poignant piano ballads and languid strings form the ultra-traditional backbone of a record that effortlessly shifts between jazz, pop, and soul. Standouts include the emotional crescendo of “Die on This Hill” and the touching simplicity of “Pure” and “Mono No Aware,” where acoustic guitar blends beautifully with the singer’s raspy timbre.
