Piega Premium 801
At the end of last year, Chris Baillie reviewed the Piega Coax Gen2 611 loudspeakers, which received an Outstanding award for their ‘clean, precise imaging, which proved unfatiguing’. Today, Piega’s Premium range expands to include a new flagship model, building on the 301 and 701 models. The Premium 801 floorstanding loudspeakers uniquely combine a low-distortion magnetostatic ribbon with a precisely tuned horn. They also feature a new midrange/low-end woofer assembly.
The Piega Premium 801 is founded on the super-rigid aluminium profile found in the Coax 611 loudspeaker. The idea is to deliver a stiff, resonance-free enclosure. The midrange driver operates in its own sealed enclosure, whilst the four FSD (Full Symmetric Drive) woofers operate in a bass reflex system. The Piega Premium 801 uses a newly developed SSD (Super Symmetric Drive) RM 01-24 ribbon tweeter, first introduced in the 301 and 701 Gen2 models. This ribbon, combined with the horn structure, doubles its efficiency and offers a lower crossover frequency at around 2700Hz.

Optimised dispersion, the lower crossover frequency and the recessed position of the SSD tweeter create an exceptionally coherent transition to the midrange – resulting in a particularly seamless and natural soundstage.
