Astell&Kern Announce new Flagship SP4000

This is news from Astell&Kern about their new A&ultima SP4000, a flagship portable digital audio player that will be launched at Munich High End next week.

The Astell&Kern A&ultima SP4000 is built on Octa circuit architecture, building on the success of the recently reviewed ‘Outstanding‘ A&ultima SP3000M.  The A&ultima SP4000 will run in full Android OS, which is good news for those familiar with Android.  The new DAP features a slew of improvements in DAC technology, all designed to minimise noise with parallel signal processes being taken to their limits.  The player also supports microsd cards up to 1.5TB, as well as featuring LDAC and aptX Adaptive for Bluetooth, and it retains BT Sink, allowing the unit to be a Bluetooth DAC.

The SP4000 case is made with 904L stainless steel, which is widely used by luxury watch manufacturers, including Rolex.  The unit has a PVD-coated ceramic back, and it comes with a Perlinger calf-leather case.

This new flagship DAP will go on sale this summer, with pricing to be confirmed.

The A&ultima SP4000 is being introduced at Munich High End alongside two new IEMs, one called XIO built in collaboration with 64 Audio, and an in-house IEM called Luna.  They will be available from the third quarter.
