Great news this week on the Focal Bathys MG, an upgrade on the Bathys released last year. The MGs feature a magnesium membrane that is lighter than the aluminium/magnesium driver in the original Bathys. The magnesium adjustment promises a more open presentation while handling bass and treble more effectively side-by-side. There are a number of other differences, notably the chestnut-style colour scheme. There is an emphasis on comfort for longer listening with new foam in the headband and the pads.

The Focal Bathys MG has a USB DAC Mode that is wired and Bluetooth wireless connectivity. It also has active noise cancellation with three modes: silent, soft, and transparent. These are all accessible in the Focal Naim App, which has EQ adjustments and a customisable profile, which is like a hearing test, to suit the listener’s needs.

Focal claims 30 hours of battery life in wireless mode, 35 hours in jack mode, and 42 hours in USB-DAC mode. If needed, a 15-minute fast charge option provides a five-hour splash and dash.

The Focal Bathys MG is currently being reviewed at HF&MS.  The 100 Track Tidal Playlist is here.
