151 – Basket of Light
The Pentangle
Well, there’s nothing for me here, very flowery folk guitars with prog-rock vibes from the late ’60s UK Folk scene. You can hear though they’re trying to mix things up heavily with glockenspiels (Light Flight) and sitars (Once I Had A Sweetheart) and the like. Jacqui McShee and guitarists Bert Jansch and John Renbourn had a great time with Pentangle, according to Louder, a great website by the way. Their review of Basket of Light is here.
Comparisons to Cream and Led Zep seem a little wide of the mark, in my view. I have a feeling I’m a little impatient to get to Let It Bleed, by The Rolling Stones but at least I’ve heard Pentangle and my preconceived ideas of what to expect have been realised.
