A new collection of Standards from Dylan, resting comfortably on his ageing laurels, Fallen Angels is an easy going covers album, best described as ‘engaging lounge music’, or ‘music to work by’. I was hoping to engage with an MQA copy of this new studio release, Dylan’s 37th apparently, but it was not to be. Last February Bob Dylan released his collection of Sinatra songs which I have to say, I glossed over, but this is slightly more engaging being a more diverse collection of songs. ‘It Had to be You’ I think needs to be a ‘big band’ track but it is OK here. My outstanding track was ‘Nevertheless’, a meandering high point of the thirty seven minutes of music. Steer clear of ‘Old Black Magic’ and you’ll be well served by this unchallenging collection of songs. Here are my regular ratings ‘Nevertheless’…
