OK, totally loving Truth. Knowing Led Zeppelin too I can really see the future here. Having left the Yardbirds, Beck needed a new direction and hooked up with Pop producer Mickey Most. Then it was a question of meeting up with Rod Stewart on vocals and Ronnie Wood, a drummer and a bass player and boom!
This is jazzy Blues Rock with crooning guitars and keyboards to the fore and early Led Zeppelin is here for all to hear. Rod Stewart’s vocal throughout the album has a hint of Robert Plant (or Robert Plant has a hint of Rod Stewart I should say). Jimmy Page, who played with Beck in the Yardbirds, ‘wrote’ the instrumental ‘Beck’s Bolero’ that is so much a Led Zeppelin track and may include contributions from Richie Blackmore (Rainbow), Keith Moon (The Who) and other rock rogues.
In all, whatever you think of Rod Stewart these days, here his vocal is amazing on “Ol’ Man River” and “Beck’s Bolero” and he really makes this album along with Beck’s bluesy guitar. Love it.
