This is nothing like I was expecting, incredibly this is the 6th Album by The Bee Gees, who knew? We are a long way from Saturday Night Fever here with the concept opening track, Odessa, lurching on for 8 minutes with flamenco guitar and pauses in direction. The track is in the form of a letter written to a loved one from a sailor, as I understand it, about a ship that has sunk in the Baltic Sea off Odessa. Random, and topical (Ukraine War) but not what I expected at all. The track has You’ll Never Walk Alone vibes for me.
Other than that, a decent listen. This apparent concept album is sprawling though. The First of May, the only single from the album, has an orchestral vibe and a great vocal from Barry Gibb. Marley Purt Drive is a pure country record but has a great beat. Meh!
