Nessie VinylCleaner
This is a look at the rather stylish Nessie VinylCleaner, this one is the entry-level version, and it does a fine job.
Design
This Nessie VinylCleaner is a vacuum-based record cleaning system that is fairly automatic in process and, to me, is quite a quiet and relaxing affair. All you have to do is put a record on the turntable and press go, add some fluid and a minute and a half later, you’re done. This version of the Nessie VinylCleaner comes with a bespoke cloth for initially cleaning the record, some Vinylin Cleaner, a very viscous, odourless, fluid that is used for the deep clean part and a soft full-width brush for spreading the fluid.
There are two other models, the Nessie VinylCleaner Pro which has soundproofing and the VinylMaster, which has everything else included.
Quality
The Nessie VinylCleaner is well-finished in an acrylic black gloss box. It is lovely on the touch and very aesthetic. It has four metal feet on felt pads that raise the box off the surface to allow the fluid to drain from the reservoir. The drain is a simple affair, and it makes for longevity in the machine itself as cleaning is very easy indeed. The velvet ‘suction lips’ can be replaced after extensive usage.
The Nessie VinylCleaner has is (LxWxH): 300 x 330x 250mm. It weighs in at 7kg. It is retailing at £1,199. The UK Distributor is The Audio Business.
Performance
Physically Cleaning the Records
This is a one-touch affair; it goes like this.
1. Place the record face up to be cleaned
2. Put the heavy puck on the label to protect it from splashes, it self-locates
3. Press Go (the blue illuminated button)
4. The record rotates clockwise and anti-clockwise a couple of times, as it does give the LP a cursory wipe with the Nessie cloth to remove excess dust
5. Add some of the rather viscous liquid with their dosing bottle that has a dropper on it, the record rotates clockwise and anti-clockwise again automatically, and use the brush to squidge the liquid about a bit
6. Put the vacuum arm over if it is not already
7. Wait for Nessie to vacuum the liquid up
The Nessie VinylCleaner does one side at a time, it is about 1 minute 30 seconds per side and the vacuum (noisy) bit is 20sec or so.
Thoughts
There is no doubt the record is cleaner and audibly clearer… the improvement is evident
I have to say this really is quite a quiet and relaxing affair, I have been cleaning two or three LPs before settling down and having a decent listen. There is no doubt the record is cleaner and audibly clearer, and without wishing to use the words ‘night and day’, the improvement is evident.
Overall
…an efficient and effective one-touch solution…
If you are looking for a quality, and good-looking, record cleaner that may be on left on display near a turntable, this is a very aesthetic piece of HiFi hardware. It is an efficient and effective one-touch solution to your record cleaning needs.
