Qobuz Album of the Week

hopefully ! by Loyle Carner

In 2018, Carner hit the U.K. singles chart for the first time with “Ottolenghi.” The next year, he surpassed that song’s performance with the Jorja Smith-assisted “Loose Ends.” His sophomore effort, Not Waving, But Drowning, arrived that April and became his second gold-certified album. The singles “I Wonder Why” (with Joesef), “Yesterday,” and “Let It Go” (with Erick the Architect and FARR) arrived in 2020. Additionally, Carner and his brother Ryan co-directed the video for Arlo Parks’ “Eugene.” Carner returned in 2022 with Hugo, his third full-length, which included the Madlib-produced “Georgetown.” Another U.K. chart success, the album was followed by Hugo: Reimagined (Live from the Royal Albert Hall). His indie rock-influenced fourth album, hopefully !, appeared in 2025.
