New Website
Welcome to this first Newsletter of 2025. With the new year, we have a new website; we really hope you like it. Any thoughts and comments would be most welcome as we develop the site further. And, a big thank you to Dan at Digitally Responsive, who has put the site together and been so helpful in its development. Thank you, Dan!
On the new website, you will see the latest review in the main window, a featured review in the Editor’s Pick and the Album of the Week, usually selected from Qobuz. Below this, the latest Reviews and News are on display. Hopefully, you will, inside the latest reviews, find a section on Further Reading that will suggest related content, for example, other Amplifiers or other McIntosh reviews, in the case of the latest McIntosh C2800 review. We will look to update older reviews with this Further Reading feature in the coming period.
The Comments section has also been moved up, so please feel free to comment on the reviews. There will be a new YouTube page in the coming months, so look out for that, too, and of course, hit that Subscribe button.
New Reviews
To start the new year, we have just published a review of the stunning McIntosh C2800 preamplifier that we have been listening to in the revealing Kudos Audio Sigao Drive. There is also a review of the latest Edifier NeoDots, which are a bit of an Apple Airpod killer at half the price. Of course we closed the year with our Products of the Year 2024, and that article is still there
Coming Up
There are some exciting reviews coming this month and next, no more so than the Focal DIVA UTOPIA loudspeakers that arrived a couple of days ago. These 3-way active loudspeakers feature the very best of Focal Acoustics and Naim Electronics. Setting them up was as easy as it gets, and our living/kitchen space sounds slightly different, listening to Radio 4’s Today program in the morning!
We also have an article on the Martin Logan Impression ESL 11A hybrid electrostatic loudspeakers, which we had the opportunity to listen to with our own Moor Amps Angel 6 power amplifier. Other reviews coming include Astell&Kern, Meze Audio, and Tellurium Q. We will also feature a unique feature on an Avondale upgrade to a Naim Classic NAP 250, which gives the New Classic 250 a real run for its money!
New Music
It has been an interesting start to the new year music-wise, with a surprising album by the remarkable Ringo Starr. His Country Album Look Up is interesting and holds the attention well. It is well-produced, particularly on a thirty-thousand-pound pair of active loudspeakers!
Also going down nicely, in a calm way as the new website is being developed, is Seong-Jin Cho’s – Ravel: The Complete Solo Piano Works
