Today Focal has launched a new range of loudspeakers called Focal Kanta. Sitting in the retail space between the Sopra and the Aria this new speaker range features the Beryllium tweeter technology from the Utopia ranges and a new Flax cone designed to deliver high internal damping and a natural sound as well as tighter bass frequency delivery.
The Focal Kanta No. 2 is the floor stander in the range, shown in the main picture. It features a three way driver technology with the flax cones presenting mid range and bass output. There are two air flow ports, front and back facing. The cabinet is also completely new, with the speaker face housing the drivers engineered from a high density polymer that is denser than MDF and a rear housing cabinet of moulded multiply wood to provide even greater rigidity.
Launched today at the Rocky Mountain Audio Fest in Denver the Focal Kanta range will initially feature a floor stander, called the No. 2. A compact No. 1 and a higher specification No. 3 are slated in for launch near May 2018. It is unclear where the Electra range will feature going forward.
I was invited to a press preview at the amazing HiFi Lounge near Milton Keynes a couple of weeks ago and the speakers are very good looking indeed. We saw the Ivory facia with the beautiful wood veneer finish but the range features a substantial range of colours and combinations in matt and gloss finishes.
The black high gloss cabinet with black facia was particularly attractive (to me) and the wonderful high gloss yellow (that I did not see) looks like a challenge if your partner is particularly light sensitive!
The Focal Kanta range launches Friday 6th October 2017 and the No. 2 will retail in the UK near £6,995 from this date.
