120 – At Folsom Prison
Johnny Cash
Johnny Cash At Folsom Prison, what can I say? He’s got a great country style song voice but after that, there is not a great deal here for me. I think ‘Ring of Fire’ has put me off The Man in Black. At this time Cash was fighting his way back both musically and physically having met June Carter and indeed this was his first hit album for five years. ’25 minutes to go’ is hilarious and quite fun. There are some banter and chats with the crowd that are quite fun too. In fact, I’m a big fan of the rockabilly style track ‘Cocaine Blues’, George Thoroughgood and the Destroyers covered this record on ‘Move it on Over’, what a piece of vinyl that is! Otherwise, this is a country music record I don’t need to listen too often, it has its moments, but that’s all.
Next up is Aretha, now that’s more like it.
