It’s awards season, what’s my Top 10, here I go.
2014, a good year for new music, in my view. I however ..
The difficult ‘second album’ turns out to be an ethereal, reflective, slightly downbeat but lovingly put together collection of well produced songs
Alt-J, meaning the delta symbol you get from a Mac were one of the first artists I had on this blog. Their second offering is made to little fanfare, as far as I am aware, considering they bagged the Mercury Music Prize in 201
So an album of reflection, that is growing on me I have to say, it was never going to be a revolutionary ‘Achtung Baby’, these guys are comfortable but luckily for me, good at what they do
I’m quite a big fan of the prolific, excellent, Ryan Adams, I certainly have several of his albums, with his second ‘Gold’ being my very favourite, probably in my all time top 10
Going back to the ‘Concrete Love’ title, I’m not getting it, there is no mention in the lyric book or a track. I suppose we’re probably not supposed to. Anyway, it is all good.
The album cover to Alarms in the Heart has Tarot cards and presents, initially with a choral, chapel feel. References to Pilgrim Fathers, Gethsemene and St Peter’s complete the picture
OK, I’ll cut to the chase, if you like beautifully produced and obviously lovingly recorded music and vocal, just go and buy this album (full stop)
